How do I go about getting a uniform master that makes all the tracks at least somewhat sound alike?

Like, I know that levels for each track vary so much that I'm always having to readjust them. But for the album master, is there a definite template I can follow that will make all the tracks sound cohesive enough that the listener won't have to move the volume levels on every song?
