Lying together on a mattress, it’s a classic passage...
Into damaging flashes of passion, mismatched assets...
Facets, ravaged by the masses till it collapses
Like wicker baskets turned to ashes, burnt to mask it...
But the young learn to grasp with both hands and squeeze
To advance with an enhanced degree of ease
They were only 17 on the breeze, trustees of hope
Unable to elope, devoted on a slippery slope...
Once physically cloaked from each other’s hold
Stolen control, parents tryna remould the story that’s told
50 years pass, they’ve grown old, no one left to harass
Deaths wrath has at last lit the path to address the past
So he leapt into the map, stepped into the task...
Of tracking the one ‘car crash’ of a passionate attack
Snatched, never again matched by either party concerned
Eager, partly nervous he rehearses the words they burned
Spurned on through the turns of his quest
By the memory of that ‘one’ love interest suppressed
With relentless investment he kept up his mission
Every recess of every mountain, shoutin’ and wishin’
Tested to his limits the years meshed, unforgiving
Then one day...
Tired, he sees in the distance a cemetery to sit in
While drinkin’, sniffing, on the brink of givin’ up livin’
He comes across something chilling carved on a grave
Here below lay the bones of the heart that he craved
Dazed, old in dismay he was too late to say...
‘My one mistake was walking away that day...
I wish that I’d stayed, i’ve missed you so much’
With that perched on a bush a song thrush erupts...
...Into verse
The same kinda bird that sang when first they kissed
He closed his eyes, let go and died as he reminisced
But then...
Out of the mist two spirits appeared with tears of joy
It was clear as they neared love can’t be destroyed
It was lost and found again... thus gone was the void!
