This doesn't really rhyme at points, but rhymes at others.. it's all coincidence..
and is really inconsequential to the poem/story
they say leave the luggage at home for a trip through the jaws of the beast
for an occasion such as this it's best to pack light
it's said the path to perdition is a long if not lonely one
but the sad yet powerful truth is companionship is out of the question
I've heard it spoken that a walk to the gallows can last a lifetime
and you won't even realize it until you've reached your destination
yet some still maintain there lively gait, the woe of paradox
that vibrant swagger contradicts the events soon to take place
ponder the intention behind each step, fighting back the urge to fight back
imagine the helplessness of a hopeless situation
see the memories long forgotten that stream before soon expired eyes
experience the pain that binds itself with expectation
view the headsman's stained fingers
...and perhaps contemplate...
the ache he feels for you, sealed behind his mask of a face
listen to your heartbeat,
the dull thrum singing time from the depths of your throat
and rehearse to yourself, again, the last words that you'll ever speak
absorb the sensation of rope entwined with neck,
...along with the anxious pulse of an unwelcome audience...
now match the lifeless stare of your executioner
question the worth of an apology, the weight of your remorse
and then gulp down another breath and just ...wait...
stay silent when they bid you speak, words are worthless and unimportant
just flash a sad smile and hope the impact settles in
and when the air rushes past your feet, mussing your hair for the last time
don't struggle, because either way, gravity will see the job complete
