Thread: writing on RB...

Oh, makes sense man... Guess I just didn't read enough of the thread. Lol, the first half seemed like a lot of ignorant complaints so I kind of just skipped all of that.

I will always stick to my style can careless
    what people say about it.

If your style is expressing yourself with intense
metaphors then maybe you like the big vocabulary
appraoch, or if you like that simplistic style with
a nice multi usage rhyme scheme then stick to
    it.

Depends on the writer , I just wrote a poem
in the poetry tournament titled 'Ash on the page'
and to me it's a different appraoch less vocab
from what I normally write and everyone thought
it was my best work, I myself thought it was simple.

so anyway RB does not think vocab is the way.

writing poetry/topicals and singing/rapping on audio are two different things ..but a lot of the "better" writers of this rate pieces under both catagorys ..infact, MOST of the "better" writers on here rate pieces in that way, with the exceptional few. Then, in attempts to better themselves to impress the "better" writers, they lose sense of their own little style. I mean yeah, maybe some of them had a shitty style that no one liked, but some of them are good ..and they lose that originality because they try and be like Bounce, Brix, or Laureate ..i think the guidlines of topical/poetry writings are even more intricate then the ACTUAL writing sometimes ..

I never once settled and modeled myself after another writer. My style is pretty uniquely my very own way of writing and still I've gotten atleast one Om HOF every month, and even two a month on quite a few occasions. If you're good at what you do people will respect it.

OmHoF is bullshit to me too ..because just last week jonathon got a piece in called "On we Go" ..which i honestly think i've written better pieces than that on more than one occassion. OmHoF isn't bullshit actually ..it's more the nominations. there's a lot of issues with OM forum that are gay to me ..but i'll just shut up.

OmHof I see it as BS only because one of my pieces
that actually made it in is sub-par to like 15 of my pieces
that would be considered way better...

that said it's like what really makes an OmHof ?

^no joke. i've NEVER made OmHoF ...but i've seen many piece i could top. it just shows that there's either ... a lack of reading EVERYONES pieces ..or there's just people that are all over each others dicks.

and a lack of reading it's really a combination.

Like there should be a serious over-view,
it's cool that the same person piece
gets put up month after month because they
are just good writers but wdf at

a piece that's put in that is not considered
    better then another.

I could easily and I mean easily pick out an OmHof
and a piece that did not make it in , and that same
piece that did not make it was considered dope.

    believe that.

i write consistantly. maybe 4-5 pieces a month lately. but still NONE have ever made it ..it's like telling me that NONE of my 5 pieces were done better than one of the 5 or 10 Hall of fame pieces. which is sometimes true but sometimes bullshit ..the systems fucked

All I can tell you is freak the OmHof and just stay
focus on writing for yourself and for nothing else.

You will get admires, and elevate...OmHof is
motivation but It's something not really to sweat.

I use my writing to increase my vocabulary and
express my emotion, it helps me become a
better writer overall. Which will be great us
when I get into storytelling for comic books
    ...

Just write for yourself and elevate for yourself
because trying to get into OmHof is a waste of time.

i don't wanna criticise the content of the pieces, cos some of them are seriously nice, but the amount of pretention in the OM section is unbelievable. the vocab, although often used correctly, adds NOTHING to the piece in the majority of cases. except a 'check out my vocab' wow factor.

if someone had the idea for the famous:

Bloody men are like bloody buses
You wait for about a year
And as soon as one approaches your stop
    Two or three others appear

as an OM, it'd probably go:

These galling beings with their genetically predisposed testosterone fuelled desire are like those galling progressors of the masses
You are held captive within a prism of malcontent while this cold earth strafes from the draw of a seductive conflagration
And as the enigma of relief looms beside your forlorn domicile
Revelations of a duet, nay, a trio emerge from whencever such bodies of tantalisation reside

word ..i use basic vocabulary on the most part tho. sure occassional "big words" are nice. but i don't use them to the extent where that "WTF DOES THAT SHIT MEAN!?!?" meter goes off. lol. i dont know wtf like 7 of those words mean inside what you just wrote lol.

well it's just like bounce said really, there is nothing wrong with vocab that looks flamboyant, as long as it is in there for a reason other than to be flamboyant. the amount of times people talk about prisms is unreal, and i even saw one guy use the word betwixt. betwixt? and people were like dope piece man the wording really brought out your emotion. i think it was supposed to be sad, i was just laughing at the vocab the whole way through.
